The Academic Director coordinates the activities of the various academic departments and reports to the Managing Director. While aiming to foster and develop the excellence of the departments, he/she also seeks to optimize synergies across the organization and ensure that research is conducted according to high standards. Should also be open to new ways of working, participating and promoting the so-called 3’is of the Institute: Investigation (Research) of excellence, specialized Instruction, and Interaction with the agents of competitiveness. From a broader perspective the Academic Director coordinates the different horizontal activities of the Institute, looking to integrate them into the Activities Plan of each department. Additionally, he/she coordinates the nodes of the Basque Chair of Competitiveness and furnishes them with content, integrating their activities with those of the academic departments. He/she attends the Advisory Board meetings.
Applicants must have a Ph.D. from a prestigious university. They should also have extensive experience coordinating research groups and a demonstrated capacity for leadership. Applicants must have led research projects with competitive external funding, and must have coordinated university departments or research groups. Additionally, candidates should have academic recognition and a consolidated professional career in research, with publications of books and articles in preeminent international journals. Should also have access to international networks of excellence, renowned universities and leading researchers.
Languages: English (fluency) and Spanish (basic/intermediate).
Applicants must have management and coordination skills to energize the various groups of researchers across departments. They must also demonstrate the ability to establish constructive relationships with the relevant agents of competitiveness, particularly those from the regional area of the Basque Country, as well as Spain and Europe.
The opening is for a full-time, permanent position at the Basque Institute of Competitiveness. Can be completed with teaching at the Deusto Business School and/or University of Deusto, provided that all parties are interested (Orkestra included).
Remuneration will be based on the candidate’s merits and experience. Expected start date: no later than September 2010.
