Location of Job opening

While this department is one of the anchor of the Institute, it has not fully develop its potential yet. Therefore, the main goal of the Director to be appointed is the launching and consolidation of a department of excellence, dealing with firm-centered strategies for better competitiveness in the open economy of the years to come.

The recently approved Strategic Plan of Orkestra identifies the priority focus areas for supporting the increase of competitive advantages and creation of value among Basque companies. These focus areas are: 

Innovation processes

Internationalization processes, strategies and results

Internal resources and resources for creating value: scope, size, organizational structures, etc.

He/she will report to the Academic Director and is responsible for the constitution, administration and management of the Department. He/she must provide leadership for the definition of the department main areas of research, as well as for the identification and development of research projects. He/she will ensure that research and other departmental activities are aligned with Orkestra’s goal.

Applicants must have a Ph.D. from a prestigious university. Should also have at least 12 years of experience and a demonstrated capacity for leadership, as well as for coordination of research groups. The successful candidate will have previously contributed as both a leader and author in research projects with competitive external funding and have authored published books or articles in renowned international journals. Should have a demonstrated academic recognition and access to networks of excellence.

Requirements: fluency in English and basic/intermediate knowledge of Spanish

Applicants should have management and coordination skills to energize the group of researchers. . Should also be open to new ways of working, participating and promoting the so-called 3’is of the Institute: Investigation (Research) of excellence, specialized Instruction, and Interaction with the agents of competitiveness. Must also demonstrate the ability to establish constructive relationships with the Institute’s other departments and with the relevant agents of competitiveness, particularly with those from the regional area of the Basque Country, as well as Spain and Europe.

The opening is for a full-time, permanent position at the Basque Institute of Competitiveness. Appointment can eventually be complemented with teaching at the Deusto Business School and/or University of Deusto, provided that all parties are interested (Orkestra included).

Remuneration will be based on the candidate’s merits and experience. Expected start date: no later than September 2010.
