Function
The Economics Department of the National Bank of Belgium is interested in hiring an experienced researcher in economics, finance and/or banking to reinforce the Research Unit.
The successful candidate will be expected to conduct and publish high-quality research in the field of financial stability and its relationship to the macro economy. In particular, he/she will contribute to the development of analytical frameworks and quantitative models useful for:
- analyzing the interaction between the real and the financial sector of the economy;
- analyzing the behavior of financial institutions and their role in the credit supply process;
- identifying and quantifying systemic risk, financial bubbles and early warning systems;
- evaluating the impact of financial market regulation and macro-prudential policies in general.
The successful candidate will also contribute to other responsibilities of the Department, such as preparing policy briefings and Bank publications on topics that are related to the research area. She/He is expected to go regularly on business trips to present her/his research results at research conferences and to participate in international meetings and research networks.
Qualifications and experience
The successful candidate must have the following knowledge and competencies:
- Ph.D. in economics/finance or a proven ability to perform the tasks required by the position;
- Strong analytical skills that enable the candidate to conduct creative, high-quality theoretical and empirical research;
- Experience in developing and utilizing analytical and quantitative models and tools relevant for addressing financial stability issues in a macroeconomic context;
- Good publication record in academic journals and/or research experience in a central bank, academic institution or other relevant research environment;
- Very good command of English with proven drafting ability;

Duration of the contract:
Permanent or fixed-term contracts can be offered depending on experience and qualification. Part-time contracts are also possible.
