Gran Sasso Science Institute has published the new call for the 40th cycle of the PhD. 42 scholarships are available (one more than last year), for the four academic programmes: 10 for Astroparticle Physics, 10 for Computer Science and 10 for Regional Science and Economic Geography; 12 for the Mathematics in Natural, Social and Life Sciences program. 2 Math's grants are financed within the two ERC - European Research Council projects: 1 for the CardioTrials project and 1 for the MatCh project. 

 

The new call provides for a gross annual scholarship of 16,243 euros; accommodation in the GSSI facilities or a financial contribution, food and other benefits listed in the call. The application for admission must be completed using exclusively the online procedure available on the GSSI website at www.gssi.it/phd/. Applications for participation received in any other way are not accepted. The official language of the PhD courses is English.

The deadline for submitting applications is set for May 23, 2024 at 3 pm (Italian time) for the doctoral courses in Astroparticle Physics, Computer Science, Regional Science and Economic Geography and Mathematics in Natural, Social and Life Sciences (including the MaTCh project ). For the ERC CardioTrials project grant only, the deadline is set for 3pm (Italian time) on 26 August 2024.

The GSSI-Gran Sasso Science Institute is an international PhD school and a center for research and higher education in the areas of Physics, Mathematics, Computer Science and Social Sciences. Founded in 2012 in L’Aquila (Italy) as Center for Advanced Studies of the National Institute for Nuclear Physics (INFN) and then established in March 2016 as a School of Advanced Studies providing post-graduate education. Through a day-to-day collaboration and interaction, researchers and students have the opportunity to build a sound knowledge of the research methods and to experiment contamination of interests, innovative approaches and multicultural exchanges in all the GSSI activities. In addressing the complexity of today’s world, GSSI is committed to removing all barriers between its areas of study and research. The dissemination of scientific results towards society and the promotion of cultural events for generic public, citizens and schools are among GSSI goals. The doctoral school of L'Aquila celebrated ten years of activity with the inauguration of the academic year early this January and continues its journey in the wake of its strong international vocation. With over 190 students, almost half of whom comes from worldwide, and nearly one hundred of academic staff, it offers a dynamic environment and collaborations with numerous prestigious scientific institutions in Europe and around the world.

Disclaimer 

The submission of an application to a GSSI PhD program has to be intended as an application to a selection procedure. The selection criteria are defined by the Selection Committees for each PhD program. 

Fellowships 

All applicants admitted to the GSSI PhD courses will benefit of the GSSI fellowships, benefits and facilities, as detailed in the call for applications. 

Application Instructions 

The application form is divided in 6 sections/steps. It is possible to save a draft of the application after each step using the Save button. Fields tagged with (*) are mandatory. In order to complete the application, you must submit it. Once submitted the application, you will receive a confirmation email containing a short summary of your application form. Please note that you cannot edit your application anymore once it has been submitted. 

In order to fill out the application form, you will be required to upload the following documents: 

- a copy of the University degree certificate 
- an academic transcript (list of the courses attended at the University with grades) 
- a Curriculum Vitae 
- a copy of a valid Identity Document (ID) signed and dated 

Depending on the chosen PhD, you may be required to upload additional documents (es. motivational letter). Each file uploaded (pdf or jpg format) should not exceed 7Mb. 

If you want, you can indicate the email addresses of up to two referees: as soon as you submit the application, they will receive from GSSI a request to submit a referral letter for you. You can also attach 1 or more publications (up to 3). The attached documents must be in pdf or jpg format and each file size should not exceed 7Mb.
